Peak District & Chatsworth Tours from Derby
Chauffeur-driven sightseeing days, planned around you

Derby is one of the best-placed cities in England for scenery: the Peak District — the first national park in the British Isles — starts practically at Derbyshire's front door. Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Dovedale and Matlock Bath are all within an hour's drive. The only problem is that somebody has to do the driving, navigate the narrow lanes, and find the parking — which is exactly the problem a chauffeur-driven sightseeing day solves. You get the views; we handle the roads.
Why the Peak District deserves a whole day
Visitors try to "do" the Peak District in an afternoon and remember it as a traffic jam near Bakewell. Done properly, one well-planned day gives you a stately home, a market town, a viewpoint and a proper cream tea without ever feeling rushed. As a Derby-based company we run these days regularly and know which order to visit in, where the coaches clog up, and which viewpoints are worth the detour.
A classic one-day itinerary from Derby
- Morning: Chatsworth House. Roughly 45–50 minutes from Derby via the A6 and Bakewell Road. Arrive for opening, when the house and gardens are at their quietest.
- Middle of the day: Bakewell. Ten minutes from Chatsworth. Lunch, the riverside, and — inevitably — the argument about which bakery invented the pudding.
- Afternoon: Haddon Hall or Dovedale. Haddon for medieval architecture minutes away on the A6; Dovedale for the stepping stones and the classic Derbyshire dale walk if the group prefers boots to battlements.
- Tea-time: home via Matlock Bath or the A6. A gentle run back down the Derwent Valley, arriving in Derby before the restaurants get busy.
Prefer a different shape of day? A long-distance chauffeur travel day hire is yours to direct — Crich Tramway Museum, the Heights of Abraham at Matlock Bath, Wirksworth and the Via Gellia, or a purely scenic loop with no stops that sell tickets at all.
When to go: seasons and busy days
May to September gives the classic green-and-gold Derbyshire landscape; October brings extraordinary colour on the estate trees around Chatsworth. Weekends and bank holidays bring coach traffic — we routinely start these days at 8:30am precisely to stay ahead of it. Winter days are beautiful but short, so we plan a two-stop version rather than the full itinerary.
Why a chauffeur beats driving yourself
Three honest reasons. First, the roads: Derbyshire's best lanes are single-track with passing places, and driving them while navigating an unfamiliar route is work, not leisure. Second, the day: everybody travels together in one Mercedes instead of splitting across two cars, and the cream tea can include the drinks. Third, the knowledge: your driver knows when Chatsworth's car parks overflow, which viewpoint is worth ten minutes, and the back way into Bakewell on a fete Saturday. It is the difference between seeing the Peak District and merely surviving it.
Group sizes and vehicles
Days are priced by vehicle and hours, not per head: a couple in an E-Class or S-Class, families in an MPV, and small groups together in one vehicle. Tell us the mix of ages and mobility in your party and we will plan walking distances accordingly — Chatsworth and Bakewell are both manageable with limited walking if needed.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Chatsworth from Derby?
Around 25 miles — typically 45–50 minutes by road via the A6, longer on summer weekends, which is why we start early.
Can you collect us from outside Derby?
Yes — Nottingham, Derbyshire villages and further afield are all fine; the quote simply reflects your pickup point.
Do you arrange entry tickets for Chatsworth?
Entry is booked directly with the estate; we plan the timing so your pre-booked slots work smoothly, including the quietest arrival window.
Is this suitable for elderly parents?
Very — it is one of the most common bookings. We shape the itinerary around minimal walking and plenty of sitting-down scenery.
